About Cecelia Ahern
Cecelia Ahern is an Irish novelist, born in Dublin on 30 September 1981, whose debut “PS, I Love You” (2004) was a number one bestseller in Ireland, the United Kingdom and the United States and became a film in 2007. She has sold over 25 million copies of her novels worldwide.
Ahern is the daughter of the former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern. She took a degree in journalism and media communications at Griffith College Dublin and withdrew from a master’s course to write. She was twenty-one when she wrote “PS, I Love You”, in which a Dublin widow, Holly, receives a series of letters left by her late husband Gerry, one for each month after his death. The book spent nineteen weeks at number one in Ireland, and the film starred Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler. A sequel, “Postscript”, followed in 2019.
Her second novel, “Where Rainbows End” (2004), is told entirely through letters, emails and instant messages between two childhood friends. It won the German Corine Award in 2005 and was filmed in 2014 as “Love, Rosie”, with Lily Collins and Sam Claflin. “The Year I Met You” (2014) won the Irish Book Award for Popular Fiction.
In 2016 Ahern published “Flawed”, her first novel for young adults, and completed the story with “Perfect” in 2017. “Roar” (2018), a collection of thirty stories about women, was adapted as an Apple TV+ series. For television she also co-created the ABC comedy “Samantha Who?”, which starred Christina Applegate.
Her most recent novels are “Paper Heart” (2025) and “Love Unlocked”, published by HarperCollins in August 2026. In July 2026 she began a children’s series with “Detective Thingy Majiggy”, illustrated by Katie Saunders, about a ten-year-old girl called Mia who can talk to inanimate objects and uses their help to solve mysteries.
