About Meg Cabot

Meg Cabot is an American author of more than 100 books for adults, teenagers and children, best known for “The Princess Diaries”, the series Disney adapted into two films. Her other series include The Mediator, the Heather Wells mysteries and “Avalon High”.

Cabot was born in Bloomington, Indiana, on 1 February 1967. After taking a fine arts degree at Indiana University she moved to New York City, where she worked for ten years as an assistant residence hall director at New York University. Her first published books were historical romances written as Patricia Cabot, beginning with “Where Roses Grow Wild” in 1998.

“The Princess Diaries” appeared in 2000 and its narrator, Mia Thermopolis, Princess of Genovia, went on to fill a long run of sequels. The films followed in 2001 and 2004, starring Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews. In Britain and Australia the sequels carry different titles, such as “Mia Goes Fourth”. “Royal Wedding” (2015) was the first book in the series written for adults, and “The Quarantine Princess Diaries” came out in 2023. A spin-off for younger readers, “From the Notebooks of a Middle School Princess”, is told by Mia’s half-sister Olivia Grace and illustrated by Cabot herself.

The Mediator books follow Suze Simon, a teenager in Carmel, California, who can see and speak to ghosts. The first four came out under the name Jenny Carroll, as did the early 1-800-Where-R-You books, in which Jess Mastriani is struck by lightning and finds she can locate missing people. That series became the television drama “Missing”. “Avalon High”, a retelling of the King Arthur story set in a modern high school, was made into a Disney Channel film in 2010.

For adults, Cabot has written the Heather Wells mysteries, about a former pop star working in a New York college residence hall, and the Boy series, which is told through emails and messages. Her Little Bridge Island romances are set in the Florida Keys, where she lives with her husband in Key West.

The Witches of West Harbor series began with “Enchanted to Meet You” (2023) and continued with “The Magic We Made” in August 2026. The same year brought “The Princess Diaries: The Graphic Novel” and the first book in Detective Baby, a graphic novel series for children illustrated by Amelia Allore.
