Asha Bromfield is a multi-talented artist known for her work as an author, producer, singer, and actress. Of Afro-Jamaican descent, Asha gained recognition for her role as Melody Jones in “Riverdale” on the CW, and as Zadie Wells in the popular Netflix series “Locke & Key.”
Beyond her acting career, Asha is a dedicated ambassador for the Dove Self-Esteem Project, advocating for positive body image and self-confidence. Her name, meaning “life,” reflects her zest for living fully. When not working, Asha enjoys spending time with her family, exploring nature, and walking her beloved dog, Luka. She splits her time between Toronto and Los Angeles, and has a passion for studying astrology, baking vegan desserts, and strolling through parks with Luka.
Asha entered the literary world with her 2021 novel “Hurricane Summer” and followed up with “Songs of Irie” in 2023. She believes that sharing our stories, no matter how big or small, has the power to heal and connect us. Writing has given her a newfound sense of empowerment, allowing her to inspire others through her storytelling.
Asha’s inspiration often comes from her disciplined approach to writing. She emphasizes the importance of setting aside dedicated time to write, rather than waiting for inspiration to strike.
Her idea for “Songs of Irie” was sparked by her childhood trips to Jamaica, where she spent summers in the countryside with her father’s family. These experiences influenced her desire to tell stories that highlight the humanity and coming-of-age journey of young black girls.
In addition to her novels, Asha has appeared in various media formats, including “Nurses,” “Killer High,” “Woman of the House,” “Slasher,” “Full Out,” “Max & Shred,” and “Dead On Campus.”
With “Hurricane Summer,” Asha tells the story of Tilla, a girl seeking her father’s love and navigating the complexities of family and identity during a summer in Jamaica. “Songs of Irie” explores the friendship between two girls from different worlds amid the political turmoil of 1970s Jamaica. Both novels showcase Asha’s ability to weave compelling narratives that resonate with readers.
